His Excellency Judge Khalid bin Ali Al Obaidli, President of the Investment and Trade Court, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Commercial Arbitration Center in the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of the Second Gulf Legal and Arbitration Week. The event serves as a leading regional platform for strengthening justice and arbitration systems across the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
The ceremony included the honoring of His Excellency Judge Khalid Al Hamar, Vice President of the Investment and Trade Court, and His Excellency Judge Nasser Al Khalifi, Court of Appeal Judge at the Investment and Trade Court, along with a number of distinguished judges, in recognition of their judicial contributions and their role in supporting the justice and investment environment.
The scientific program also featured the presentation of two specialized studies. The first addressed projects and legislation in the GCC states, while the second, titled “International Commercial Arbitration: A Global Perspective,” reviewed prominent international experiences and best practices in the field.
In the same context, Sheikha Maha Al Thani, Court of Appeal Judge at the Investment and Trade Court, presented a working paper addressing advanced legal themes in arbitration, highlighting best contemporary practices and the role of arbitration in supporting economic development and effectively resolving commercial disputes.
In a statement on the occasion, His Excellency Judge Khalid bin Ali Al Obaidli affirmed that the inauguration of the Commercial Arbitration Center represents an important step toward strengthening alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. He noted that arbitration has become a fundamental pillar in the settlement of commercial and investment disputes.
His Excellency stated: “Supporting and developing arbitration centers directly contributes to enhancing confidence in the legal and investment environment and aligns with modern trends in resolving disputes with efficiency and flexibility. This achieves swift justice and serves the path of economic development in the GCC states.” He added that the judiciary’s participation in such events reflects the importance of integration between the judiciary and arbitration, and their shared role in upholding the rule of law and supporting legal stability.
