The Investment and Trade Court has signed a cooperation agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), aiming to strengthen partnership and exchange expertise in the field of intellectual property rights protection.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Judge Khalid bin Ali Al-Obaidli, President of the Investment and Trade Court, and Mr. Ignacio de Castro Yamas, Director of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, in the presence of Mr. Abdulbaset Al-Ajei, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with a number of distinguished judges and Court officials.
The agreement focuses on supporting the development of an advanced judicial environment capable of keeping pace with international best practices, thereby enhancing the Court’s role in protecting intellectual property rights and fostering an attractive investment climate in the State of Qatar.
On this occasion, H.E. Judge Khalid bin Ali Al-Obaidli stated: “This agreement comes as part of the Court’s commitment to engaging with leading international institutions and benefiting from their expertise, thereby reinforcing Qatar’s position as a developed hub for intellectual property protection and for the settlement of commercial and investment disputes.”
Following the signing ceremony, the WIPO delegation toured the Court’s facilities, where they were briefed on its various departments and learned about the Court’s jurisdiction and mechanisms in handling commercial and investment cases.
The delegation expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the warm hospitality and generous reception, praising the advanced infrastructure and capabilities they witnessed, which reflect the Court’s status as a pioneering judicial institution both locally and internationally.
